The Arinto dos Açores is the most important grape variety in the archipelago.
The Arinto dos Açores is a completely unique variety, indigenous to the Azores, and its origin is unknown. However, recent studies suggest that it is a descendant of the Verdelho variety.
Of the three traditional varieties grown in Pico, the Arinto dos Açores is the most resistant to bad weather, showing greater yield capacity and oenological quality similar to, or even better than, Verdelho.
