Old Vines are made up of grape varieties that are indigenous to a particular region or have been there for a very long time.
Old vines are said to be vines that are more or less over 40 years old.
However, since the Azores and the Douro regions have older wine traditions, an old vineyard can be up to 140 years old.
In the Alentejo, the average old vines will be between 50 and 70 years old.
Generally, old vines are made up of red and white varieties mixed together.
