From our Signature Series, this Baga is from Alentejo, which is atypical and tests the variety further south, where the schist, granite, sun and heat have allowed it to mature to other levels. The result... is Baga as we've never tasted it, without ever ceasing to be itself!
An Alentejo Baga, rustic as it should be, but warmer, with a different level of ripeness. No contact with barrels, which allows us to taste this unique variety in a more southerly region, as we've never seen it before.
The vineyards are cultivated on very poor soils of schist and granite origin, naturally producing very concentrated grapes. They are grown organically, without the use of herbicides, and most of them are dryland, without irrigation.
Manual harvest at night. Selection on a sorting table. The grapes are gently crushed and gravity-fed into the vat. Cold pre-maceration. Spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. "Cuivason for 30 days and ageing for 12 months in stainless steel.

Baga is a charismatic grape variety and marks both a style of wine and the identity of an entire region.
Native to the Bairrada region and highly planted there, the Baga variety is the basis of Bairrada's sparkling wines and traditional aged reds. Wine production in this region dates back at least to the Roman period, with more concrete evidence dating back to the Middle Ages.
It is the sixth most planted red grape variety in Portugal and is found in the Trás-os-Montes, Douro, Dão and Alentejo regions.
With a light color and high acidity, Baga stands out for producing elegant reds, with freshness and striking tannins.
