Maçanita is a project by two brothers and winemakers who explored the terroirs of the Douro. They are so many and so different that in 1935 a system of classes from Letra A to Letra F, with the right to benefit, and without the right below Letra F began and continues to this day. In Letter A are the plots with the greatest maturity and which brought so much fame to the Douro; in Letters F and following, the opposite. With less power and concentration, they were pushed towards abandonment. But there are still forgotten treasures, vineyards planted in other times that confirm the existence of several Douros. This is one of them.
Carlão, Cima Corgo. Vineyards 90-110 years old at 480m altitude, soils in transition from schist to granite, with an average production of 2400kg/ha.
Plowing on horseback. Manual harvest for 18kg boxes. Partial destemming of the grapes combined with whole bunch maceration for 40 days. Aged for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels.
Light ruby-violet color, open, with notes of red fruit and balsamic aromas. In the mouth, volume, texture and great depth. The tannins are firm and persistent.
733 bottles in November 2023.
Store at 12ºC to be served at 16ºC and drink at 18ºC.
Goes well with spicy red meats, game dishes and cheeses.
