Maçanita is a project of two brothers and winemakers who explored the terroirs of the Douro. They are so many and so different that already in 1935 a system of classes from Letra A to Letra F, with the right to benefit, and without the right below Letra F started and is still maintained until today. In Letter A are the plots with greater maturity and that brought so much fame to the Douro; in Letters F and following, the opposite. With less power and concentration, they were pushed to abandonment. But there are still forgotten treasures, vineyards planted in other times that confirm the existence of several Douros. This is one of those vineyards.
Carlão, Cima Corgo. Vineyards with 90-110 years old at 480m altitude, soils in transition from schist to granite, with an average production of 1200kg/ha.
Horse ploughing. Manual harvest for 18kg boxes. Partial destemming of the grapes combined with whole bunch, maceration for 40 days. Aged for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels.
Clear ruby-violet color, open, with notes of red fruit and balsamic aromas. In the mouth volume, texture and great depth. The tannins are firm and persistent.
666 bottles in July 2022.
Store at 12ºC to be served at 16ºC and drink at 18ºC.
Goes well with spicy red meats, game and cheese dishes.
