Maçanita is a project of two brothers and winemakers who explored the terroirs of the Douro. They are so many and so different that already in 1935 a system of classes from Letra A to Letra F, with the right to benefit, and without the right below Letra F began and is still maintained until today. In letter A are the most mature plots that brought so much fame to the Douro; in letter F and following, the opposite. With less power and concentration, they were pushed to abandonment. But there are still forgotten treasures, vineyards planted in other times that confirm the existence of several Douros. This is one of those vineyards.
Carlão, Cima Corgo. Vineyards with 110-130 years old at 580-720m altitude, soils in transition from schist to granite, with an average production of 1100kg/ha.
Horse ploughing. Manual harvest for boxes of 18kg. Partial destemming of the grapes combined with whole bunch, maceration for 40 days. Aged for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels.
Clear ruby-violet color, open, with notes of fresh fruit and resin aromas. In the mouth great complexity, texture and depth.
