Maçanita is a project of two brothers and winemakers who explored the terroirs of the Douro. They are so many and so different that already in 1935 a system of classes from Letra A to Letra F, with the right to benefit, and without the right below Letra F started and is still maintained until today. In Letter A are the plots with greater maturity and that brought so much fame to the Douro; in Letters F and following, the opposite. With less power and concentration, they were pushed to abandonment. But there are still forgotten treasures, vineyards planted in other times that confirm the existence of several Douros. This is one of those vineyards.
Carlão, Cima Corgo. Vineyards with 90-110 years old at 480m altitude, soils in transition from schist to granite, with an average production of 1200kg/ha.
Horse ploughing. Manual harvest for 18kg boxes. Direct pressing of the whole bunch, cold decantation, spontaneous fermentation in barrels with bâttonage. Aged for 12 months in neutral barrels.
Citrine yellow, fresh and mineral nose with some cream notes. The attack is dense, rich with good acidity.
Keep at 6-8ºC to be served at 10ºC and drink at 12ºC.
Pairing with baked fish or fish to the salt. Seasoned white meats and soft cheeses.
