Verdelho is an indigenous grape variety of the Azores, distinct from the "Verdelhos" of the mainland and shared with neighboring Madeira. This Verdelho is "the Original", the one from the islands, the one with the freshness, the salinity, the minerality and the unique perfume that made Verdelho be The Verdelho!
Fresh mineral and saline attack, it has the matrix of the Azorean grape varieties and terroir, but with a slightly more intense aroma, adding to the grapefruit notes touches of acidic tropical fruit such as passion fruit and guava. It is not Verdelho-Gouveio, it is not Verdelho-Verdejo, it is Verdelho-Verdelho, the Original.
Fresh, very mineral and saline. Ideal partner for oysters, barnacles and bivalves. It also works with grilled fish, salads and fresh seafood.
Selective manual harvest in 20 kg baskets, whole bunch pressing, racking after 12 hours. Spontaneous fermentation in 600-1000 litre horizontal vats (80%) and in used French oak barrels of 228-500 litres (20%).
20% 8 months in barrels on fine lees.
Keep at 6ºC to be served at 10ºC, and to be drunk at 12ºC.
