Erupção Vulcânica brings together the best wines from the 2018, 2019 and 2021 vintages in search of the expression of Pico's volcanic soils. It's our Volcanic Eruption.
Open ruby color, explosive nose with notes of red fruit, smoke, sea and some vegetable. The palate is fresh, textured with lots of salinity and fine tannins. It's our Volcanic Eruption!
6,666 bottles of 0.75L.
A fresh, elegant, spicy and saline red. An ideal partner for casserole dishes, fatty meats and, for the more courageous, classic Azorean harmonization with complex fish dishes such as caldeiradas, cataplana or others.
Lagido and biscoito volcanic soils formed between 500 and 2000 years ago.
A unique terroir in the world, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, at the base of the volcanic mountain of Pico, the vineyards are planted in the crevices of the rock, next to the sea, where you can hear the "crab singing", as this is where there is the most sun and warmth. This proximity, sometimes just a few meters, means that the vines have to be protected by walls (corrals) from the strong, salty winds of the Atlantic.
Selective manual harvesting in 20kg baskets, the grapes are selected at the sorting table, 30% whole bunch 70% destemmed, they fall by gravity into the vat. Spontaneous fermentation and maceration for 25 to 30 days on skins.
50% in barrels and 50% in stainless steel vats. Average ageing period of 30 months.
Store at 12ºC to be served at 16ºC, and drink at 18ºC.
