100% Tinta Grossa
Tinta Grossa is a grape variety from the ancient Alentejo, that has disappeared due to its light color and lack of alcoholic stren- ght. Descendent of Mourisco-Branco and Alfrocheiro-Preto, sibling of Trincadeira-das-Pratas. We have planted it here, at Morgado de Oliveira. Soils are granite, dry farmed. In its first vintage, it shows all its freshness, elegance and Alentejo identity. Welcome Tinta Grossa, this is our first trial together.
Soils of granitic origin, with great presence of limestone, making the soil’s ph slightly basic.
The vineyards, around 50 years old are certified under Organic Production, without the use of herbicides and dry-farmed, without irrigation. All our vineyards are also certified within the Alentejo Sustainability Program.
Manual night harvest. After the sorting table, 70% are destemmed and the other 30% whole bunch. The grapes are slightly crushed, just popped, and fall straight into the vats by gravity with no pumps being used. Cold maceration until fermentation starts spontaneously. Total maceration 30 days
16 months in used French oak barrels.
