Concept

It was in 2007 that we produced the first Fitapreta red with the mission of making a red wine based on the original Alentejo formula— a wine made exclusively from Alentejo grape varieties. The choice of Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, and Trincadeira was obvious, but over time, we discovered that old vineyards revealed other, fresher, and more elegant grape varieties that once dominated Alentejo. Little by little, we integrated these varieties—first Castelão, then Moreto, and now Trincadei- ra, Alfrocheiro, and Tinta Carvalha, planted in granite soils. It is not ancestral... it is not contemporary... it is ours— ILUMINISTA (Enlightened).

Tasting Notes

Concentrated violet color. Intense nose of fresh black fruits with notes of dry grass. Full-bodied, rich and lickerish attack with toffee notes and the aftertaste reveals firm and round tannins.

Soils

The vines are cultivated in very poor soils of granitic (60%) or schist (40%) origin, naturally giving very concentrated grapes.

Viticulture

The grapes are grown either under an organic production regime or under an Integrated Certified Production regime without the use of herbicides, most of which are rainfed, without irrigation. Our vineyards are also all certified within the Alentejo sustainability program.

Ageing

12 months 50% french oak and 50% stainless steel vats.
