Sercial e Folgasão.
This Branco dos Villões brings together some of the grape varieties that contribu- ted to that history: Sercial and Folgasão — also known as Terrantez in Madeira Wine. The name “Villões” comes from the nickname “Vilains” given by the people of neighboring Island of Porto Santo to the inhabitants of Madeira. In return, Madeirans call the people of Porto Santo “Prophets”. This is the spirit behind the Profetas & Villões project: a celebration of the two islands, their history, their friendly rivalry and their wine identity.
Training: traditional trellis vines on the slope.
Age of the vineyards: between 12 and 30 years old.
Soils: Volcanic soils, leptosols, or andosols; acidic pH.
Location: Madeira island, areas of Seixal, Ponta do Pargo and São Vicente.
12% Vol.
The grapes were harvested manually on Madeira Island and transported in 40 kg boxes to Porto Santo Island. Selected on a sorting table, direct pressed whole clusters into decantation tanks, with three fractions being separated, without any use of SO2 until the end of fermentation, allowing for a pre-oxidation of the must and a more complete spontaneous fermentation. The must fermented horizontal stainless steel vats, with total lees aging for 9 months.
Pale yellow color. Pure aroma, citrus with notes of fresh acidic fruit. Tense attack, acidic with prominent salinity. Good persistence.
Fresh, very mineral, and saline. High acidity, making it a good match for seafood and fatty fish.
